MEMBER UPDATE
February 1, 2013
Day 5 on the picket line.
Yesterday’s request for an informal meeting from the university administration is a sign that the strike and the support we’ve been receiving are having a positive impact.
A recent letter to X alumni has created a backlash condemning the one-sided portrayal of the strike and using the name of the Alumni Association to promote the administration’s position. We are hearing from graduates who say they are unhappy with the administration’s approach and are taking off their X-rings in protest until a fair agreement is reached.
StFXAUT president Peter McInnis is hopeful we will get a call today to resume official talks.
A strong show of solidarity and unity at today’s rally at Chisholm Park at12:30 pm could help to end the strike and win us a just agreement.
During and after the rally we will be joined by about 30 fly-in and drive-in pickets from across Canada representing the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), the Association of Nova Scotia University Teachers (ANSUT), and the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA).
On the weekend, STFXAUT president Peter McInnis will be the guest on Maritime Connection, a CBC Radio 1 call-in show, hosted by Preston Mulligan. The show airs on Sunday, February 3rd, from 4-5 pm. Call in to offer your support or to let the public know why we need a change at X.
