As part of Pride Week activities, on Thursday, February 14, there will be a talk by Dr. Gary Kinsman from the Sociology Department of Laurentian University on Queering History: Activism, National Security and Homonationalism. The event is co-sponsored by the Department of History and X-Pride. Please note the History Department has moved this event off campus in support of the AUT strike. Dr. Kinsman will also join the picket lines on Thursday in solidarity with our job action. His talk will be held at the John Paul Centre, 308 Main Street at 7 pm followed by a reception Piper’s Pub.
On Friday, February 15, X-Pride invites AUT members to attend Priscilla, Queen of Highlands in the Mackay Room, Bloomfield Centre. Doors open at 8:30 pm; the show starts at 9:00 pm – midnight. This annual show is one of the biggest and best drag shows in Atlantic Canada, and is the fundraiser for the X-Pride Scholarship. The show will be hosted by Rouge Fatale, a top drag performer in NS, who also plans to join C. Leah Cruise on a visit to the picket lines “to cheer all the men and women who are fighting for what is right!” Rouge is “dedicating this show to the” academic workers of the StFXAUT, and will perform a special rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” X-Pride is offering a reduced rate on tickets for AUT members; tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. They are available from Chris Frazer at Strike HQ or on his visits to the picket lines. For more information, please visit the Priscilla Facebook page at:
