Today, October 7, 2015, is Fair Employment Day. Fair Employment Day is a dedicated toward highlighting the increasingly precarious nature of work in post-secondary educational institutions and takes place in solidarity with the World Day for Decent Work.

The StFX Association of University Teachers would like to acknowledge all our academic colleagues working around the globe with contractually limited terms of employment, reduced benefits and no job security. This is an affront to decent labour practices, compromises the academic mission, and harms students’ university experience.

The StFXAUT would also like to take this opportunity to note that many of our own members have part-time or limited term positions at StFX University. This practice damages the integrity of StFX and we call on the university to make full-time and secure employment of academic staff a priority.
