Dear StFXAUT Members,
As we approach the start of spring with renewed hope that we will learn to live with COVID-19, we must remain vigilant in order to complete this academic year with minimal disruptions. In this issue of the Beacon, we showcase the work of the Antigonish Emergency Fuel Fund, reflect on the Black Students Matter: Fall Teaching Retreat, and examine the impact of precarious employment on many of our Members and our programs.
In the meantime, we forge ahead with preparations for the next round of negotiations. The members of your Executive Committee and the Salary and Benefits Committee are currently drafting a member survey and will soon commence group meetings and town halls to help understand the issues and determine priorities. We are already drafting updates and new language that will form the basis for the negotiations of the next Collective Agreement. We are also beginning to work with Daniel Draper, the new Director of Human Resources, and soon will welcome Dr. Amanda Cockshutt as Academic Vice-President & Provost.
Please know your representatives on AUT Committees continue to work diligently on your behalf and are here when you need us. Without your engagement and feedback, the work of the AUT would not be accomplished. We continue to focus on the pursuit of improved collegial governance, better job security for our those with precarious employment, and equity for all.
Stay safe and Happy Spring!
