The StFXAUT offers a book prize consisting of a cash award of $200 and a book, selected by the StFXAUT Book Prize Committee, awarded annually at Spring Convocation to two graduating students of high academic standing who demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice advocacy and community development. Nominations from StFXAUT members should be submitted to the StFXAUT Office . The 2023 deadline was March 15. The 2024 date will be confirmed in the new year.
A copy of the student’s C.V. must accompany each StFXAUT Book Prize Award Nomination Form along with your reasons (maximum one-page letter) for nominating the student for this award. Prior to being nominated, students must be informed by the nominator. For more information, please refer to the StFXAUT Book Prize Award Terms of Reference.
2022 StFXAUT Book Prize Awards
The StFXAUT would like to congratulate the 2022 Book Prize Award recipients Kevanya Simmons (Bachelor of Arts, Aquatic Resources) and Courtney McKay (Bachelor of Business Administration, Honours).
Kevanya was awarded Becoming by Michelle Obama (recommendation by nominator Dr. Riley Olstead) and What Is Critical Envionmental Justice? by Dr. David Naguib Pellow (StFXAUT Book Prize Committee’s recommendation).
Courtney was awarded Life in the City of Dirty Water by Clayton Thomas-Müller (recommendation by co-nominators Mark MacIsaac and Brad Long) and Five Little Indians by Michelle Good (StFXAUT Book Prize Committee’s recommendation).
2021 StFXAUT Book Prize Awards
The StFXAUT would like to congratulate the 2021 Book Prize Award recipients Amy Graham (Bachelor of Science, Human Kinetics), Emma Kuzmyk (Bachelor of Arts, English with Honours), and Sydney Van De Wiel (Honours Women’s and Gender Studies with Subsidiary in Development Studies).
Amy received Becoming by Michelle Obama and Exercised: Why Something We Never Evolved to Do is Healthy and Rewarding by Dr. Daniel Lieberman.
Emma Kuzmyk was awarded Sister Outside by Audre Lorde and The Overstory by Richard Powers.
