Member update 4 February; negotiations update & weather advisory

MEMBER UPDATE February 4, 2013
As our strike enters its second week on this stormy Monday, the StFXAUT is waiting for administrators to table a new offer to our full negotiating team tomorrow, the first full offer in eight months of negotiating.
StFXAUT president Peter McInnis said, “We’re looking forward to constructive discussions, but a deal isn’t likely unless the administration is prepared to show some movement. Our members remain committed to sustaining strike action and won’t relent until an equitable settlement is reached. They understand that continued strike action is the key to achieving a fair deal.”
Meanwhile, strike co-ordinator Chris Frazer is advising members to check weather updates and not to travel in bad weather. Those who are able to make it into town will maintain a presence on the picket lines. Please note that the 10:00 am picket shift has been canceled. Please stay tuned for further updates.
Despite the bleak weather outlook today there is something we can do. This is an opportunity for us to show our appreciation to the people who have supported us during the first week of our strike. How? By taking time out to relax over coffee or lunch at one of the local  businesses that have brought us food and hot drinks on the picket line and at HQ. So for all of you winter adventurers out there who won’t have to endanger yourselves on the highways and who aren’t on the picket line, we encourage you to express your appreciation to the following businesses for the generosity they have shown us:
Prissy Pig
Eastings Bakery
Tim Hortons
Kenny’s Pizza
Pizza Delight
KFC
Gabrieau’s
Boston Pizza
Dream Catchers (Antigonish Mall)

Those of you who attended the wonderful Solidarity Supper this past Friday will be glad to hear another event is planned for this Friday, February 8th. To make this event another great success, the social affairs committee needs 15-20 volunteers to do set up and take-down of tables and chairs, cleaning throughout the event, and possibly some kitchen work or serving. Please email Lise Brin at [email protected] to sign up for the Friday shift (5-8:30pm).
